BECKLEY - A Beckley man was arrested after admitting to robbing a convenience store in Raleigh County.

Darnell Jackson, 33, is charged with second-degree robbery. Lieutenant David Farley with the Beckley Police Department said Jackson confessed to the crime to detectives, stating he had a drug problem and needed money.

The robbery happened at the Little General on Johnstown Road in Beckley around 9 a.m. Sunday, according to Farley. Officers responded and found out that a person had come into the store yelling and hitting the cash register demanding money. The suspect then left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers were in the area at the time and were able to locate Jackson walking on the road within a matter of minutes, according to Farley. Most of the stolen money has since been recovered and returned to the store.
