Citizens gathered at Fayetteville High School today to learn how to prepare in case of a disaster.
The high school hosted the community's second annual disaster preparedness fair. Event organizers started the fair last year in response to past disasters like the Derecho. The fair teaches basic survival skills to locals while showing them what's necessary to get by in emergency situations. Event planner Theresa White hopes the fair makes an impact.
"we try every year to instill in the public a little bit about how they can be better prepared for any kind of emergency that comes up whether it be a disaster or just a individual emergency."
Vendors at the event included county commissioners, members of the fire department and the boy scouts.
