LEWISBURG - Spring came at a perfect time for a well-known festival this weekend in Greenbrier County.
Charley Acela, event goer from the Eastern Panhandle, said “it's a beautiful day; a lot of people are here, a lot of chocolate. I mean what else could you want?"
The Chocolate Festival brings chocolate lovers from around the state to sample a variety of sweet treats. "We started it a few years ago, me and one of my friends from high school and we just come every year and it's our yearly tradition,” said Oak Hill resident Stephanie Broughman.
Others said they're in Lewisburg to enjoy the area and good company; "Lewisburg is absolutely and awesome place to hang out, a diverse place that's why I come back here,” said Fayette County resident, Tina De.
Local restaurants and bakeries working at the Chocolate Festival said this is one of their busiest weekends of the year, but they wouldn't have it any other way. Owner of the Greenbrier Valley Baking Company, Gina Lang, said, “it's utter chaos, that's it that's all I can say, it's utter chaos.”
It's not just the chocolate. Co-owner of the Stardust Café, Sparrow Huffman, said they take pride in everything they serve; "It's really important to have a festival like this to showcase what we do here in Lewisburg we all do beautiful fresh food. And we all are inclined to do things that are small and beautiful and particular and we do that and we source only good chocolates. we try to source as much of our food as we can locally so by supporting us and coming you're also supporting as many local farms as we can possible use."
Spring brings good weather, sweet flavors, and more business to Lewisburg starting with the April festival. Lang said, "it kicks off Spring for Lewisburg and it works really well, it bring people into Lewisburg and show cases it so it think it works really well for Lewisburg and the economy for Lewisburg."
