Man in custody after police chase

BECKLEY - A police chase in Beckley Tuesday lands one man in custody and sends two people to the hospital.

Corporal M.P. Deems with the Beckley Police Department says Jerry Gunter Jr., 37, is facing several charges including DUI second offence, fleeing while DUI, fleeing causing bodily injury times 2, malicious wounding and obstructing, after police say Gunter took a Land Rover traveling along Robert C. Byrd Drive, slammed into a truck waiting at the stop sign of Piney Avenue.

3 people total were in that truck, 2 of which were sent to the hospital. Deems says he tried to stop Gunter but he kept driving and hit his cruiser.Gunter was eventually stopped and taken into custody at Ollie's.

 He is currently at a local hospital but will be taken to southern regional jail upon release.
