SCARBRO – Attention coal miners: Help is available for filing for federal assistance with Black Lung Disease.
New River Health is offering a helping hand for folks suffering from Black Lung. Officials say the application process is long and complicated, so they want to give assistance to those who need it.
To file a claim you need proof of coal mine employment, claim numbers, social security numbers, and doctor's names.
Bring that to the Mt. Hope Fire Department on April 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and medical professionals will walk you through the process.
“We still have a very large work force of coal miners in West Virginia, and they are still developing black lung disease,” says New River Health director Susie Criss, “We're seeing it in younger coal miners especially in Southern West Virginia.”
