LANSING – Spring time in Appalachia is here, and that has park rangers ready to host a celebration in Southern West Virginia.
The New River Gorge is celebrating its 11th annual Wildflower Weekend at the end of April.
Featuring a variety of programs including art exhibits, nature classes, and walks, the big draw is a hike from Grandview into the Gorge. Hikers will see more than 70 species of flowers on the 2.5 mile trail.
Park Ranger Jodi French-Burr hopes the weekend will raise awareness to the natural beauty right here in our own backyard.
“This part of the country is one of the most diverse areas naturally of any place in all of the United States. So it's a really fun place to explore and amazing that we have so many parks and areas that we can see and do that right in our own neighborhood.”
