BECKLEY - Several local businesses have partnered up in hopes of raising thousands of dollars for children's cancer research.

With help from 99.5 WJLS, Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital began its annual radiothon at Grand Home Furnishings to find more local support. One Beckley child who'll benefit from donations is 6-year-old Gavin, who is the son of a Grand employee and patient at Saint Jude's.

The hospital works with families free of charge, so event organizers encourage community support.

"Children with cancer is just something that tears your heart out," Grand Home Furnishings Manager Anthony Carpenter told WOAY. "Children -- most of them don't even know what life's about yet. They don't know what the disease is but yet they're strapped with it."

Anyone wishing to help can contribute to the hospital by calling 1-800-942-8731 through the end of the weekend.
