SURVEYOR - Several southern West Virginians want to put an end to bullying with a weekend event to promote individuality and self-esteem.
“Bullying and the Ball Gown" is set for Saturday at the pavilion at Lake Stevens. The event is a play on the upcoming prom season that will include as many as 20 vendors and student talent.
Organizer Alecia Travers said a $2 admission fee will go to the family of Chris Nelson, a Boone County student she says committed suicide after he was bullied.
“We want to bring it up and bring it out into the community that it is not right -- that there are people that will stand up for you if you cannot stand up for yourself, and we want to shed light on the fact that everyone is important,” Travers said.
Donations for the Chris Nelson fund are being accepted at the Whitesville State Bank in Glen Daniel.
