Mine accident in Greenbrier County

RUPERT - 8 miners are hurt in an accident in Greenbrier County Tuesday night.

Leslie Fitzwater, with The West Virginia Office of Miners' Safety, Health and Training says a mine accident occurred around midnight Tuesday in Greenbrier County.

An initial report indicates a man trip car, lost it's brakes on the entrance into The Greenbrier Minerals Moutaineer Pocahontas Number One Mine on Anjean Road  near Rupert.

8 miners were injured, 5 were taken to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, 2 of the injured remain hospitalized for non life threatening injuries.

Inspectors from MSHA continue to investigate.
