BLUEFIELD- A community organization in Bluefield, focused on helping students succeed, is seeking financial assistance as well as volunteers.
Director Jessica McDaniel at the Wade Center in Bluefield said their goal is to see kindergarten through 8th grade students grow in their education. The Wade Center has teachers on staff, but the Director said volunteers help keep the student to adult ratio low and effective. The main function of this program is helping students complete homework, bettering their grades in school. Due to the program's success, The Wade Center also offers a summer program. Currently the center is in need of donations and volunteers to keep the program running.
McDaniel said, “it's crucial. We have kids that drop out because they don't have the help that they need and we're giving that to them. We say the best investment you can make in the future of this community is the Wade Center because of what we're doing with these kids."
Anyone interested in volunteering can call 304-323-377, or stop by The Wade Center at 1400 Highland Avenue in Bluefield to sign up.
