OAK HILL - A particular area of Fayette County has fallen victim to several burglaries over the past week.
Residents in the South Hill area of Oak Hill, specifically Sutton Place and Round Hill Road, have had to call the police on several occasions regarding stolen items. Neighbors said the missing items are not large enough to be noticed right away; usually cash, jewelry and small electronics are being taken from these homes. One resident told Newswatch that she knows someone broke in because muddy footprints were left on the stairs leading up to her bedroom. Other residents have seen their doors propped open. Oak Hill Police Chief Mike Whisman said his officers have been responding to these calls and see commonalities between the burglaries.
"In some cases, the residents or owners of the house didn't even realize that someone had been in their home. They're not bashing in windows or kicking down doors. They're gaining entry into the house being very neat and not making a lot of mess and later on when the people come home or maybe even a day or two later they realize they have things missing, items missing from inside their house,” said Whisman.
Officials with the Oak Hill Police Department urge anyone in the community to call 911 if they see suspicious activity in their neighborhood.
