POLICE - A man is behind bars for allegedly beating an acquaintance in the head and face with a hammer.

Casey Dale Browning, 30, is charged with malicious wounding, fleeing from police, obstructing and battery.

Beckley Police Lieutenant David Farley said officers responded to a residence on Combs Street around 10 p.m. Tuesday and found the male victim lying on the floor. Witnesses and the victim confirmed Browning as the suspect.

Farley said officers heard someone in a wooded area behind the residence shortly after securing the scene, leading to a short foot chase before Browning was arrested without incident. He was arraigned and taken to Southern Regional Jail a $20,000 bond.
