BECKLEY - A Parkersburg man charged with
a recent armed robbery at a Raleigh County grocery store appeared in court Tuesday.
Jonathan James Rager, 38, waived his
right to a preliminary hearing in Magistrate Gregory Tanner's courtroom. Rager's
attorney said he will request 20 years for a flat sentence in jail at his next
appearance in circuit court.
Sergeant David Allard with the Beckley
Police Department said Rager had several warrants on him for robbery,
shoplifting and parole violation.
Allard said Rager went to the Beckley
Kroger on Harper Road the night of March 13 and passed a note to the cashier
that threatened he was armed with a gun and demanded money. There were two
robberies of the same style the prior week in Parkersburg, so police there
assisted the Beckley Department with identifying Rager from the surveillance
Rager is in Southern Regional Jail on $100,000
bond for his charges in two counties.
