Alleged sex offender waives right to preliminary hearing

BECKLEY - An Eccles man arrested after an ongoing investigation of child sexual abuse waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

James Patton, 46, is being charged as a sex offender after one of his alleged victims came forward with information to authorities. He is accused of being in possession of child pornography and having sexual encounters with minors.

State Police said Patton's abuse of children has been going on for several years and they had their suspicions before but no hard evidence.

Patton's attorney said his client waived Monday's hearing because he is seeking a bond reduction and home confinement instead of prison. Patton did not appear in court.
