MOUNT HOPE - A large sum of money and drug paraphernalia led to the arrest of 2 people on Saturday.

36 year old Annie Marie Hawkins and 43 year old Shannon Dale Carte, both of Hico, face felony charges for possession of a controlled substance. Corporal Gritt with the Mount Hope Police Department said he pulled over the driver of a gold Chrysler Sebring and found that the driver had a suspended license. The driver also appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the stop. Officials found over $27,000 cash in the car as well as heroin, needles and spoons. Gritt said he could see most of this evidence before a search of the vehicle was even conducted.

"I saw the cash and they did have a 50" flat screen, brand new that they were leaning up against in the back of the vehicle. There were 2 cases of beer, there was a bottle of liquor that I could see from standing and talking to the driver. She was very jittery and ended up pulling a needle out of her bra area and handed it to me just as soon as she got out of the car when I asked if she had anything on her for a terry frisk," said Gritt

Mount Hope Police Officials said they will continue to crack down on drugs in the area and catch criminals who are responsible for this distribution.
