LANSING – It’s opening day for one of West Virginia's most popular outdoor recreations.
White water rafting draws people from all over the world to the New River Gorge. March 22nd was opening day for riding the rapids, and for the companies that make their living from this attraction. Adventures on the gorge staff said they cannot wait to get on the water and kick off the season. A bachelor party from North Carolina took their first trip down the river on Saturday, but a gentleman on the same trip has done this trip hundreds of times. One of the founders of Adventures on the Gorge, Dave Arnold, said all kinds of rafters come through his doors.
"Today was a great example. We had some people that had never been before and we had a gentleman today that has literally been hundreds of times. We have guests that consider it a bucket list; they come once, they're done, they move on. And then we have guests that, they become addicted,” said Arnold.
Staff members said they are looking forward to another season of white water rafting and hope to see many new faces this year.
