DANIELS - A woman died after being hit by an SUV overnight in Raleigh County.

Corporal J. L. Redden with the Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Dorothy Lea Price, 64, of Jumping Branch. Redden said Price was walking alongside of Ritter Drive in Daniels with her son Thursday night and was struck by an oncoming Toyota RAV-4 traveling southbound as she attempted to cross the roadway. She was transported to Beckley ARH Hospital, where she passed away as a result of her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and is not being identified at this time, according to Redden. There is no evidence or suspicion that alcohol, controlled substances or drugs led to the accident. Speed or distracted driving does not appear to be factors, either. No charges are expected to be filed in this case at this time.

The case is being investigated by Corporal J. L. Redden with the assistance of Deputy T. D. Pack and Lieutenant M. A. McCray. Volunteers with the Beaver Fire Department and EMS personnel from Jan-Care and Best Ambulance Services responded to the scene, according to Redden.
