Man senteced in fatal accident

BLUEFIELD - A Mercer county man is sentenced Monday for his role in a fatal accident from 2012.

Eric Perdue, 32, of Bluefield was sentenced to, 2 to ten years in prison for driving under the influence resulting in death. He pleaded guilty before Judge Omar Aboulhosn in January to one felony count. Perdue was charged after a fatal accident in august of 2012.

A report by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department said Perdue was the driver of a Chevy Silverado that crossed the center line on Route 123 near Brushfork and collided with a Chevy Cobalt driven by Sherri Waktins, 41. Watkins died at the scene; two other people were also injured in the crash.

Perdue's blood alcohol level was .379 at the time of the accident.
