BRUSHFORK - Police are stepping up patrols on U.S. 52 in Mercer, McDowell and Wyoming counties.
Dean Capehart with the Governor's Highway Safety Program said that more funding became available recently to allow officers to work overtime to help patrol the highway.
The Mercer County patrols include a stretch between Brushfork and Bluewell where two children were killed in a wreck on March 5.
Thirty-eight-year-old Julie Shanklin of Brushfork says she has seen officers monitoring traffic near the scene of the accident. She says the patrols are a step in the right direction.
Forty-three-year-old Rhonda Christian of Bluewell says she's seen more motorists being ticketed for speeding. But she says some motorists will still speed if they don't see any officers.
