BECKLEY – An Eccles man was arrested after an ongoing investigation of child sexual abuse.

46 year old James Patton was charged as a sexual offender after one of his alleged victims came forward with information to authorities. Patton was accused of being in possession of child pornography and having sexual encounters with minors. Beckley State Police officers said Patton’s abuse of children has been going on for several years. Authorities had their suspicions before, but said they had no hard evidence. Since the arrest, recorded footage of some of these sexual acts has been found by police.  Officers said Patton once had a job in Oak Hill, where he dealt with the general public. The State police will continue asking for other victims to come forward if they have any information to further the investigation.

State Trooper, Corporal S. Efird, said, “we do have more victims, since then I've spoken to additional victims. Some are now actually adults and this appears to have occurred over the past 6 years, maybe even longer. That's why we're actually seeing if you could help us maybe possibly see if there are additional victims that we are unaware of."

Patton is in Southern Regional Jail on $250,000 bond.
