WELCH - The Grundy, Virginia man guilty of murdering the former mayor of War will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

Earl Click, Jr., 27, was sentenced to life with mercy and will be eligible for parole in 15 years, according to the McDowell County Prosecutor's Office.

Last month Click was convicted of felony conspiracy and first-degree murder in the death of then 72-year-old Tom Hatcher, whose body was found back in July 2012.

Rebecca Hatcher, the former mayor's daughter-in-law, is set to have a new trial in June for a conspiracy charge. Rebecca Hatcher and Earl Click Jr. are siblings.

In Judge Booker T. Stephens' courtroom Wednesday, Hatcher's sister spoke on behalf of the family.
