FAYETTEVILLE - A former Raleigh County correctional officer accused of distributing prescription pills in Fayette County was sentenced in Circuit Court on Wednesday morning.

Judge Paul Blake, Jr. sentenced James Howard Butcher to 1 to 15 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Blake denied Butcher's application for probation.

Butcher had pleaded guilty in January to delivering a controlled substance. He was arrested after deputies executed a search warrant last August at a residence in Fayetteville. Sheriff Steve Kessler said deputies found more than $3,000 worth of the drug Roxycodone, more than $4,000 cash and a large amount of firearms.
