RONCEVERTE – Greenbrier County Special Olympics raises funds for its next event thanks to a line of kitchen tools.
The Pampered Chef in Greenbrier Co. hosted a party Saturday afternoon to donate up to 20 percent of its sales to the Special Olympics.
Managers of the Olympics say these types of fundraisers are crucial to getting its athletes to the games. It takes more than $2,000 per trip.
The group of 50 athletes will head to Morgantown next week for the cheerleading and basketball competitions.
Special Olympics spokesperson Linda Weikle says all the work is worth it just to see the joy in the athlete’s faces.
“When they get their medals at the events they are just ecstatic, it really is as if you gave them gold, silver, and bronze. They are just so happy.”
The Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department donated the space for today's show.
