BECKLEY - A long-standing recreational tradition began Friday and will continue throughout the weekend in Raleigh County.

The 43rd annual Wendy's Biddy Buddy Basketball All Star Tournament kicked off Friday hosting hundreds of young players from around the state. YMCA officials said this is an opportunity for these young players to show off their talent and compete among friends. 4th through 8th graders get involved every year, and 1 YMCA official said if they participate 1 year, it's likely that they'll be back for more.

Sports and Recreation Director, Daniel Vass, said, "this is one of the things whereyou see the same teams year after year. I actually played in this tournament when I was a kid. It's some of the best memories I had as a kid, was playing in this tournament. I'm just excited to give these kids the same opportunity to make those memories, make friends, have some fun."

The money raised from the Biddy Buddy Tournament stays local  to support the Beckley YMCA’s scholarship and youth programs.
