Locals gather for Women's Expo

BECKLEY – Hundreds of West Virginian’s come together at a one-stop shop all about women.

The 17th annual Women's Expo is going on at the Raleigh County Convention Center through Saturday.

There are more than 100 vendors set up, which is the biggest turnout they've ever had.

Anything from beauty products, to interior design, to self-defense tips are on display.

Officials are offering prizes and discounts at area businesses.

Director Jay Quesenberry says it's the convenience that makes the expo so great.

“I think what makes it really great, it's a one-stop where you can do and see everything. You don't have to go and travel to all these different things.”

Organizers say the first 25 people in line Saturday at 10 a.m. will win a $25 gas card from Little General.

Also at the expo is New River Community and Technical College in Beckley.

The team is set up giving medical advice to women.

Students offered blood pressure readings and encouraged young people to think about the medical field, but officials are hoping a presence at the expo will make people aware of their other programs also.

Medical student Britiny Akers says they are having a lot of fun on a very busy day.

“We are hoping to get a couple people to sign up for our school and letting people know that we are in the field and hopefully get a couple jobs.”

Akers says it’s a great time being in school and talking to folks at the expo.

“Love it, like to see all the people and get to know people and everything.”

The expo will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
