UPDATE: Police arrest a man in connection with arson

UPDATE - A Beckley man is behind bars after attempting to burn down his apartment.

Beckley Police say Kevin McVay, 46, of Beckley set fire to the kitchen of his bottom floor apartment on Hoover Street in Beckley around 6pm Thursday. McVay is being charged with first degree arson.

Police say he was being evicted and set the kitchen on fire. Three other people lived in a separate apartment upstairs, that apartment only received smoke damage while McVay's apartment suffered more extensive damage just in the kitchen area and to some cabinets. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

McVay remains in Southern Regional Jail.


BECKLEY -  Police make an arrest in connection with an arson investigation in Beckley Thursday night.

911 Dispatchers say a call came in around 6pm Thursday, of a structure fire on Hoover Street in Beckley.

The fire was considered suspicious and police were able to make an arrest, the suspect is being charged with arson and was being transported to Southern Regional Jail.
