BECKLEY - Reports of a gun at a Raleigh County Middle School placed it on lock down on Wednesday.
Raleigh County Superintendent Jim Brown said he was notified around 11:30 AM on Wednesday that several students at Beckley-Stratton Middle School told school officials they heard rumors there was going to be a shooting.
Brown said the school followed safety procedures and went on lockdown immediately. Raleigh County Police were contacted to conduct a thorough investigation. Following that, officers found no evidence that the rumor was true. Classes then resumed and students followed a normal schedule the remainder of the day. Brown said parents have been notified of the lockdown.
