Ski owners not concerned about warmer temperatures

GHENT- With temperatures expected to reach the fifties this week, skiers are getting some last minute thrills.

"We were here [Winterplace Ski Resort] yesterday; the conditions were awesome. Lots of fresh power, no icy spots, or anything; the conditions are excellent," said Robin Helms of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Those who operate ski resorts in West Virginia believe the difficult winter from Florida to Maine has put them in a good place.

"It's awesome! Bring lots of clothes. It's cold, very cold," added Thomas and Jenna McAdams of Augusta, Georgia.

Snowshoe, Winterplace, and other area ski resorts all have fresh snow from last week's storm with dozens of trails ready for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. Forecasters are predicting warmer temperatures and some skiers are taking advantage.

"We're going to enjoy the good weather this week," Helms said.

Tom Peterson, who's part of the Winterplace management team, said that the warm weather isn't going to end the fun.

"There's places on this mountain that has fifteen feet of snow. So it's going to be around for a while, so a little bit of warm weather actually could be good because some people don't come out until it's warmer," he said.
