BECKLEY – A long-time figure in Raleigh County emergency services will soon be without a job.

Kevin Taylor is a 33-year veteran of Beckley Emergency Services. His role includes aiding and enhancing preparedness throughout the city.

Taylor says his job is being terminated by the city as it works to reduce the budget deficit.

He tells Newswatch just 30 minutes after learning he was being let go, he was informed the city earned a grant worth more than $7,000 that he regretfully declined due to his termination.

But Taylor says plenty was still accomplished in his years.

“Anything from the formation of our public-private partnership that is still ongoing; the city of Beckley was named a "StormReady" community, which we're one of just a few within the state,” says Taylor.

“You know, it's the relationships more than anything that I feel good about.”

Taylor says he is grateful for the opportunity to serve the city, will continue in his current role until March 30.
