BECKLEY - A sold out black tie event benefiting the Raleigh County Humane Society got underway on Friday.
The inaugural event titled "Furball" was hosted at the Black Night Country Club in Beckley. Tickets were sold for fifty-dollars each and organizers say the event was a success with all 150 tickets being sold. A silent auction was held with items donated from area businesses. Organizers say the mission of the humane society must continue.
"They are the voiceless and we have to be their voice. We have to step up and do the right thing for them," said humane society volunteer Susan Loving.
Loving said the number of animals that are dropped off at the shelter is high, but that the humane society has not had to euthanize an animal due to over population in nearly two years.
