BECKLEY - UC Beckley announce plans to create a new nursing program.

It will be an associate degree nursing program (ADN). The university still has a couple more steps of development before it's presented to the state's Board of Examiners for nursing approval. Raleigh General and Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospitals announced their partnership support with the ADN program. Both hospitals will also be clinical sites for students.

ADN Director and Associate Professor Larry Rosenquist says he started out with an associate's degree and he is excited to create and develop courses, objectives, mission statements all from the ground up.

"I fell like I can offer something to an associate degree program, just a little bit of a twist. Something a little different that attract students, but also help them to be successful as nurses," said ADN Director Larry Rosenquist.

UC Beckley projects its first class of 15 students to begin this fall and a second group to start January 2015. The new program will receive accreditation once the first class graduates.
