WELCH – The trial against the man accused of killing the former mayor of War continued today.

The defense of Earl Click, 28, began its testimony this morning in McDowell County.

Click is charged with killing former War Mayor, Thomas Hatcher, 72, in July 2012.

The prosecution already sent its witnesses to the stand last week.

Testifying for the defense this morning was an ambulance first-responder, Hatcher's long-time doctor, and family members of Click, including his sister and mother.

Key points for the defense were cell phone records attempting to pinpoint where Click's sister Rebecca was at the time of the murder.

Rebecca was a co-defendant but was acquitted of murder charges in November 2013. However, a judge declared a mistrial on her conspiracy charges and a retrial is scheduled in February.
