WELCH – The trial against the man accused of killing the
former mayor of War continued today.
The defense of Earl Click, 28, began its testimony this
morning in McDowell County.
Click is charged with killing former War Mayor, Thomas
Hatcher, 72, in July 2012.
The prosecution already sent its witnesses to the stand
Testifying for the defense this morning was an ambulance
first-responder, Hatcher's long-time doctor, and family members of Click,
including his sister and mother.
Key points for the defense were cell phone records
attempting to pinpoint where Click's sister Rebecca was at the time of the
Rebecca was a co-defendant but was acquitted of murder charges
in November 2013. However, a judge declared a mistrial on her conspiracy
charges and a retrial is scheduled in February.
